Good to know
- Paperback sizes for kdp.amazon.com. Hardcover and Amazon.co.jp have their own lists.
- Expanded Distribution is open to some size and paper combinations only. KDP’s Expanded Distribution page has the chart.
- Page limits are KDP’s. How many pages your book fills depends on your font, margins and spacing, so format it before you settle on a size.
// FAQ
Questions
What is the most common KDP trim size?
KDP says 6 x 9 in (152.4 x 228.6 mm) is the most common trim size for books in the US, and it is the default when you set up a paperback.
Does the trim size change the printing cost?
Only through one line: sizes wider than 6.12 in or taller than 9 in count as large and cost more per page. On Amazon.com a 300-page black-ink book costs $4.60 to print at a regular size and $6.10 at a large size. Other sizes in the same group cost the same.
Can I publish an A5 book on KDP?
A5 (148 x 210 mm) is not on KDP’s list, but KDP accepts custom paperback sizes from 4 to 8.5 in wide and 6 to 11.69 in tall, which covers A5. KDP does not publish page limits for custom sizes. The nearest listed size is 5.5 x 8.5 in.
Which sizes work for color books?
Premium color works with every listed size. Standard color needs 72 to 600 pages and is not offered at 8.27 x 11.69 in (A4).
Are the UK B-format and Royal sizes exact?
No. UK printers use slightly different sizes for these names, so the list only says “close to”. Check your printer’s exact size if you print in both places.
